Northpine Technical High School, BrackenfellEducational

This project consists of a new Secondary School for 1500 learners and includes a hall, library, administration block, laboratories and trade workshops. It was commissioned by the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape and will commence construction in 2010 in Northpine, Brackenfell. The building has been designed to form an integral part of the community it serves, with portions of the school facility available for after-hours adult education. This public facility, with its distinctive roofscape, will be robust and vandal proof, whilst at the same time dignified – restoring confidence and a pride in a poor community on the urban edge of the Cape Metropole. The facility is largely self-sufficient and its design incorporates rainwater harvesting for sports field irrigation and passive climate control measures to relieve the burden of associated running costs and maintenance.
