MEYER+VORSTER was appointed in 2010 by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan University (NMMU) as the convenor of a multidisciplinary team to prepare Urban Design Frameworks (Campus Plans) for five of NMMU’s campuses, including Summerstrand Northand South, Missionvale, Second Avenue and Saasveld in George. The team included urban designers, architects, services engineers,quantity surveyors and landscape architects. The work was completed within a tight budget and within the required timeframe. Aspecial commendation was received from the Vice-Chancellor as appreciation for the quality of work produced by the team as part ofthe project. The project dealt with issues of integration and transformation, within the context of academic restructuring and very limitedresources. Although very challenging, the produced university plans are currently being implemented as part of the university expansionand consolidation strategies
