Park & Ride Facilities, Cape TownUrban Design

MEYER+VORSTER was appointed as part of a multi-disciplinary team, together with ILISO Consulting Engineers and Urbanscapes Landscape Architects, as urban designers implementation agents for a number of “Park & Ride” Projects associated with rail stations on the outskirts of the Cape Metropolitan Area. This was one of the City of Cape Town’s projects for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The integration into the broader public transport strategies for Cape Town as well as the legacy aspects, beyond the World Cup, was of particular importance in the layout and design of these facilities. Eventually projects were implemented before the event at five stations and subsequently, due to the success of the first ones, the City has embarked on an expansion of the project to include another 6 stations. These are scheduled for completion in 2012 and 2013.
