House V/D Merwe Coetzee, De WaterkantResidential

This ultra-small residence was designed for a professional couple in the De Waterkant Heritage area. It comprises only one bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a garage, an open plan lounge/dining kitchen area and study. The house is accessed via a ramp along its side, which delivers the visitor in an exciting double volume space with adjustable skylight above. From here, all the accommodation of the dwelling is only half a flight of stairs away. The living area and study are located on the upper floor to maximise views over the harbour and backwards towards Table Mountain. The interiors are bespoke, with careful attention to design detail. Exceptional off-shutter concrete walls delineate spaces and crafted panelling and cabinetry finishes off the spatially exciting interiors. A roof garden is included to maximise outdoor living on a very small stand. This project was awarded an CIA Award for Architecture in 2013.
